Evenkiya
   / Evenkiysky Municipal District
   An administrative district of Krasnoyarsk Krai. Formerly a federal subject of the Russian Federation known as the Evenk Autonomous Okrug, the region (along with the Taymyr Autonomous Okrug) was merged with Krasnoyarsk Krai on 1 January 2007, following a 2005 referendum. In the poll, 79 percent of registered voters gave their support for the merger, while 20 percent voted against consolidation. The last governor of the region was Boris Zolotaryov. The region’s titular minority is the Evenk people, who account for 21 percent of the region’s population of some 18,000; ethnic Russians form a majority at 62 percent.
